The learning forms of leadership development
Leadership development takes place in different but connected learning forms, layered one upon the other. Formulating learning goals, invention-module, modules, reflection and transfer areas: all form a learning curve, by which everyday leadership is connected with experiences in leadership development.
The two central learning forms are modules and transfer areas:
Modules
Modules are seminars, workshops or learning designs, in which the group creates experiences on a topic or a question and works on these experiences together.
Each module is different in its view of the question worked upon, and in the form of its treatment, and in all modules the executive goes through a comparable learning cycle.
Transfer area
The intervals of time between the modules are transfer areas in leadership development, in which executives interweave their experiences from the modules into their everyday work. And in which they observe themselves and their surrounding work field and give feedback over their observations. In these transfer areas learning on the job takes place.
Two central transfer areas of leadership development are:
Projects for organizational learning
in which executives, together with their colleagues, continue to develop a small and distinct part of their organization, as CHANGE AGENTS.
Organizational conferences
In which the knowledge, that was created in the different learning groups, is connected and discussed with the organization.
